Tim Gerstmar

I am a high school English teacher with a masters in English Studies from The University of Nottingham and a Massachusetts teacher's license in secondary English. 

I am currently working at Pacific American School in Hsinchu, Taiwan where I teach middle and high school English, including American Literature and College Essay Writing. I also have five years’ experience as an IB teacher, which includes: four years of English A: Language and Literature; one year of TOK; and two years of English B. Additionally, I have two years of MYP English Language and Literature experience. I feel my IBDP experience has made me a better teacher, as it is a demanding curriculum that has taught me the necessity of balancing rigor with empathy for the students.

I have worked overseas for twenty years in South Korea, Thailand, China, Malaysia, and now Taiwan. I feel as though living in these different countries has made me more accepting of different cultures and backgrounds. Each country I have worked in has required me to adapt to new ways of thinking and deal with a variety of perspectives daily. This has been a challenge, but it has also helped me grow as a teacher and an individual.

My name is Tim Gerstmar, and I am interested in the middle school English teaching position at your school. I am a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, and I have a masters in English Studies from The University of Nottingham in the UK. I received a teaching certificate in secondary English at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
